Port of Miami Cargo Control Facility
Miami, FL

AFCO provided its project management and construction services to Miami Dade County for the construction of the Cargo Control Facility at the Port of Miami. This facility acts as the control gate for cargo traffic in and out of the port of Miami and acts as on e of many facilities that work in concert to secure the port.
The project consisted of extensive improvements to existing storm drainage to alleviate flooding of maintenance areas to the south, as well as a concrete paved plaza with an aluminum space frame canopy spanning more than 130 feet in length. A fully automated truck weighting system with two-level stainless steel collection booths and a reinforced masonry main collection and control building were also constructed. Additionally, due to the location of the new facility, AFCO reconstructed a railroad spur essential to the shipping functions of the port. AFCO was able to phase construction to eliminate impact to daily port operations.
